Shag is a 2004 red roan stallion by CTR Peptolena and out of Tanquery Return.  He stands 15.1 and weighs 1100 pounds.  He has cutting and performance earnings on both sides of his pedigree.

He is the grandson to Peptoboonsmal, a 1995 NCHA Futurity Open Champion who has sired over 270 money earning foals.  Peptoboonsmal is one of the worlds leading cutting/performance horses.  Peptoboonsmal comes from a line of champions.  His sire Peppy San Badger ranks No. 3 on the All-Time Paternal Grandsires list, not to mention that he also ranks No. 3 All-Time Cutting Horse Sire.  His dam Royal Blue Boon ranks No. 1 All-Time dam by a wide margin, with 17 foals that earned more that 2.5 million.

Shags grandsire on his dams side is Tanquery Gin, one of the All-Time leading sires of cutting horses.  Tanquery Gin is by Doc Olena who set a record that still stands, when he led all four rounds en-route to the 1970 NCHA Futurity Championship.  He was also a leading sire and grandsire of cutting horses and the No. 1 All-Time NCHA Broodmare sire.

We are very pleased with the way this stallion is turning out.  He just keeps getting better with age.  He has such a good mind.  He is willing, and very eager to please.  We have had several comments about how quiet he is for a stallion.  He has great bone and good feet.  He really watches a cow.  He never gets excited, not even in the show pen. We call him a real "Working Cowhorse."  We use him here on the ranch roping, sorting, gathering and branding.  We think that he is a horse that you can cross with any type of mare and get a really nice foal.

Shags first get arrived in the spring of 2008.  We have had great feed back on how these foals are turning out.  Everyone has commented on how "easy," smart and athletic these foals have been, not to mention the straight legs, big hip and beautiful heads. Take a look at them on "Shags Get" page.  Let us know what you think.

2009 Foals have arrived.  It looks like it is going to be another colorful year for the babies!

We had a great breeding season for 2009.  We thought that the economy would effect our breeding season this year...but WOW...it turned out to be another great year with lots of repeat breeders.

Thank you to everyone who bred to Shag, or purchased our foals and mares.

We will again be accepting out-side mares for breeding in 2010.  If you are interested in looking at this stallion please give us a call.  We do discounts for multiple mares.  We also ship semen.

Our vet is Dawn Shore at Crossroads Vet Clinic in Palo Cedro.  All shipped semen will be done through the clinic.

MARE CARE:
We prefer that you bring your own hay.  This seems to be better for your mare, so her diet does not change while she is with us.  However, we will supply hay for you.  The cost will be determined at the time the mare is dropped off.  We will charge you what our cost of hay is at that time.
